Team
The FLUX Lab is led by Dr. Chieh-Ying (Cindy) Chen and is actively recruiting its founding graduate students at Texas A&M University.
Principal Investigator
Incoming Assistant Professor
Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering, Texas A&M University
Postdoctoral Researcher, University of Delaware (2024–present)
Cindy's career goal is to lead a research group that bridges fundamental environmental fluid mechanics with applied water resources management in surface water and groundwater systems. Her work spans multi-scale hydrodynamic, sediment transport, and water-quality modeling, sediment oxygen demand and dissolved-oxygen dynamics, hyporheic mass transfer, groundwater thermal-energy transport, and coastal surface-water–groundwater interaction.
Education
Mentoring Philosophy
Cindy's mentoring emphasizes professional skill development, interdisciplinary perspectives, and problem-solving. She encourages student-driven learning — where students define problems, conduct analyses, and communicate results — and is committed to building a diverse, supportive group where students at all stages can thrive.
Who thrives here
Join the Lab
The FLUX Lab is recruiting graduate students (Ph.D. and M.S.) at Texas A&M University who are excited about environmental fluid mechanics, hydrology, and computational modeling. Backgrounds in civil/environmental engineering, earth & geosciences, applied math, physics, or scientific computing are all welcome.
Expected start: Fall 2027. Prospective students are encouraged to reach out now.
Email Cindy at ccychen@tamu.edu with a short note about your research interests (and your CV, if you have one). She'd be glad to chat about working together — please include “FLUX Lab” in the subject line.
